John Francisco (later known as BJ) Miller was born on Sunday, October 9, 1988 – his father John’s birthday. In high school, BJ was a scholar and athlete, playing both baseball and football and serving as captain of the football team.

On October 12, 2007, three days after his 19th birthday, BJ was in a fatal auto accident. He left his organs, tissue and corneas to be gifted to others, saving four lives and healing dozens more. BJ had decided to become an organ door after watching a Discovery Channel special that showed how another young donor had saved the lives of others.
