Danny's Story
Danny Brannon was a God-fearing, studious and caring person. A 2006 graduate of Carver High School, Danny was a straight-A student who played quads in the band and was fondly known as 'Bambi.' Danny studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa where he was at the top of his class and scheduled to graduate in May 2011. Tragically, Danny was killed November 28, 2009 by a drunk driver in Birmingham, Ala.
Danny was a faithful member of the Guiding Light Church in Birmingham, where he was devoted to the youth ministry and helped with the sound system, which was his favorite duty in ministry. His favorite scripture was Psalm 37: "The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand." Although he was not a talkative soul, his faith was exemplified in his actions and willingness to sacrifice for others. In further testimony to Danny's Christian service, his friends have said that Danny was dependable for a word of encouragement, tutoring, or changing a flat tire. You could always count on him.
When Danny's life was abruptly ended, five lives were substantially improved through his decision to donate organs and tissue through the Alabama Organ Center. In the past, Danny commented, "Where I am going, I do not need these." In honor of Danny, his family has started the 'I AM DANNY BRANNON Foundation,' whereby deserving students can receive scholarships to further their college education. The foundation also promotes the prevention of drinking and driving, and informs college students about the importance of organ donation.
