Eighteen-year-old Rachel Escue had planned to become an ophthalmologist in order to help people who could not afford good eye care. Her dream and her life were cut short when she and her sister Jamie were in a car accident. Jamie survived her serious injuries; Rachel did not.
Rachel had signed the organ donation part of her driver’s license and told her parents that if anything happened to her, she wanted to be a donor and help other people. “Even though some family members questioned her decision, I wanted to fulfill her wish,” said her mother Jencie. “I want to let others know that organ donation made it easier for us after losing her. It’s hard to describe the special way you feel about what she did.” Rachel saved five lives with the donation of her organs. |
