Twelve-year-old Jonathan Eshenour went out for a regular bike ride when a fall resulted in head injuries and death on July 17, 1997. Jonathan’s family made the decision to donate because they felt that if there was nothing more the medical staff could do for Jonathan; maybe there was something he and his family could do for others. Five of Jonathan’s organs were transplanted into four adults. The Eshenour family has since become very involved in promoting the importance of organ and tissue donation. His mother Cheryl feels that “if opening our hearts and sharing our story helps another family understand the importance of discussing donation, then we are giving meaning and purpose to Jonathan’s death.” |
