Lacey's Story
Lacey Haye grew up on a ranch in Kimberly, Idaho. Lacey's parents, Stan and Diana, both ranched and owned businesses, so she grew up knowing how to work and neighbors would comment how they would see her irrigating with a book in her hand. Lacey was active; besides her school activities she golfed, fished, skied, hiked, kayaked and tried ice climbing with her brother.
Lacey was the youngest of a blended family, babied by her sisters and an older brother, Nathan, who was twelve years older. Lacey was a shining star who shed her light on everyone she met. Lacey excelled at everything she did from sports to scholastics; she was an honor student and student body president for Kimberly High School. Lacey also wrote articles for the Times News about KHS.
Lacey had finished almost two years of college by her graduation from high school. Lacey's dreams were to become a secondary education teacher and to write a book. Lacey went to college at The College of Southern Idaho and Boise State University.
What Lacey excelled in the most was loving others. There was no such thing as race age or gender to Lacey; she was able to connect with everybody.
Diana remembers being at the Twin Falls DMV the day Lacey signed her license and registered to be an organ donor. Diana told Lacey that she was a donor, but Lacey needed to make that decision for herself. Lacey did not hesitate to do it and later did it again when she renewed her license. Her donation decision was honored after she lost control of a small motorcycle she was riding and slid into oncoming traffic. She was only 19.
Lacey is tremendously missed by her family, friends and community, and she managed to make a big impact in her short time on earth. Lacey's closest friends and boyfriend keep in close contact with the family. The policeman who was at Lacey's accident ran into Stan and Diana a year later and told them that Lacey inspired him to register as an organ donor himself.
