Nicholas's Story

Nicholas John Bogie was a devoted husband and a loving father to his 14-month old son. A high school athlete, he was an accomplished outdoorsman with an interest in hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, tractor pulling, ice fishing, and sugaring during maple syrup season. On March 29, 2011, Nick had an accident at work and was rushed by MedFlight to the hospital. He had suffered severe brain damage and although his doctors did everything to save him, he passed away two days later at the age of 26.

When Nick's wife Carrie learned about the possibility of organ donation, she made the decision to donate his organs and tissue. Nick's brother said something that was comforting to all in making their decision: "If everyone could have just a little piece of Nick, then this world would be a better place."

The day before he died, Carrie learned she was expecting their second child. She never had the opportunity to tell Nick. In November 2011, their daughter Brynn Nicholas Bogie was born.

In the months after her husband's organ donation, Carrie Bogie has become a strong proponent of donation in Vermont.
