On September 5, 2004, 16-year-old Cody Shaw Prewitt was in a fatal car accident. His dream had been to play football for the NFL. Through his organ and eye donations, Cody gave the gift of life to seven people.
Cody’s family continues to be involved with the cause of organ donation. In 2006, Cody’s family attended the Transplant Games, where they cheered on as Cody’s double-lung recipient, Lana Hall, competed in his memory. In May 2006, Cody was honored at what would have been his high school graduation, when Lana walked across the stage and received his diploma. Cody’s younger brother, Logan, has become a very active advocate for organ donation, volunteering and speaking for the Midwest Transplant Network. |
