Virginia Martinez Knapp received her nickname, Jete (hee-tee), from her nana. Jete was extremely creative and talented. She had a passion for gardening and loved to grow fruits and vegetables. She loved dogs and had five dachshunds. Jete adored her three children, Virginia, Emily and Juanito, and was extremely proud of them. She always said that her family was her heart, and it showed.
At 19, Jete married her best friend, Juan Camacho. They were virtually inseparable. They would have celebrated their 22nd anniversary in August 2009. They had planned to go to Las Vegas and renew their vows Elvis-style because Jete loved Elvis. She had even talked Juan into dressing as Elvis for the event.
But Jete died on June 19, 2009, at age 41, and subsequently became a liver and heart donor. “Jete’s legacy lives on, not only in her three beautiful children but also in the recipients of her organs,” said Juan. “She blessed us all throughout her life and continued to bless others on her way home. That brings us great peace knowing that through our pain and loss, she was able to save lives. She had such a sweet and giving spirit.” |
