In December 2002, 12-year-old Johnny Ysais and his family made a pact to be organ donors – unaware that just two months later, his wish would be carried out.
On February 14, 2003, Johnny collapsed and was declared brain dead. He had seemed like a healthy, normal preteen; no one knew that he had an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in which masses of abnormal blood vessels grow in the brain. The donation of his kidneys and liver made good on the Ysais family pact. |
