After receiving her liver transplant, Amy Tippins has become a tireless advocate for organ donation. In 2009, Amy – who is also a tissue recipient – left the financial services industry to found RockScar Love Designs, a women's apparel company. Amy, now 38, volunteers at Camp Independence, a camp for families affected by organ transplantation, and enjoys public speaking. "In life, very few gifts have the power to drive you to serve others...in hopes of somehow coming close to repaying the joy you received," Amy said. "The gift of organ donation not only ignites this desire in me, but in everyone impacted by this priceless gift."
Amy's Story
After receiving her liver transplant more than 20 years ago, Amy N. Tippins has become a tireless advocate for organ donation. Two decades later she also became a tissue recipient, receiving an ankle ligament transplant due to an injury brought on by beginning her exercise routine a bit early – only six months after her liver transplant.
Amy went to work in the financial services industry as a sales professional for many well-known companies, including Transamerica Retirement Services, FSC Securities, Axa Enterprise and Wells Real Estate Funds. For more than a decade, she specialized in the qualified plan market and defined benefit plans and consistently earned the title of top sales person in her department.
She left finance in 2009 to found RockScar Love Designs in 2010, for which she currently serves as CEO. Amy sought to realize her dream of owning a business with a platform to inspire, empower, and enrich the lives of others. Her spirit permeates everything in the business, from the one-of-a-kind branded apparel to her blogs and tweets.
"If people can simply accept themselves and embrace both their physical and emotional scars, they will create an environment that has potential to give rise to something amazing," she affirmed.
In addition to running RockScar Love Designs, Amy, now 38, volunteers at Camp Independence, a camp for families affected by organ transplantation. She also enjoys public speaking with Georgia Transplant Foundation, National Kidney Foundation and other civic organizations. Her past activities include Atlanta Jaycees, United States Master's Swimming Association, and coaching basketball with Camp All American. As busy as she is, she finds the time to enjoy cooking, yoga, spin classes, surfing, entertaining and modeling.
"In life, very few gifts have the power to drive you to serve others and achieve something amazing in hopes of somehow coming close to repaying the joy you received," Amy said. "The gift of organ donation not only ignites this desire in me, but in everyone impacted by this priceless gift – the gift of life."
