Bill Lofthouse founded Phoenix Decorating Co., a primary builder of Rose Parade floats. For more than a half-century, Lofthouse helped expand the boundaries of the once-boxy creations through elaborate animation and such simple material as sesame seeds. He was known for being able to “unite people in a common goal.”
Lofthouse was also a community leader and donor husband whose beloved wife Gretchen donated her corneas to offer the gift of sight to those in need. His generous support from both a business and creative standpoint helped to make Donate Life's parade participation a reality. In so doing, he contributed significantly to an ongoing campaign that has inspired tens of millions of people to donate life. |
