Gregory Keith Hamill was a devoted family man, loyal friend, and community protector. He had a gift for animated storytelling to entertain his many friends and his two children, Taryn and Ian. Greg served the Omaha community for 13 years as a narcotic detective and DEA task force officer. He passed away on February 19, 2014, at the age of 43 from complications related to the H1N1 influenza virus. His passion to help others continued after his death through his organ, tissue and cornea donation.


Gregory's Story

Gregory Keith Hamill was known as a loyal friend - whether someone was a best friend or a new friend, they were friends forever. People were easily drawn to his sense of humor and quick wit. When he entered a room, everyone knew they were in for a good time.

Greg had a gift for making a short story long, and everyone loved to listen to his animated storytelling. A devoted family man, he was especially proud of his two children, Taryn and Ian. He also had a deep faith and was a strong influence and mentor to countless others who shared his faith.

A native Texan, Greg relocated to Omaha, Nebraska, in 2000, and joined the Omaha Police Department in 2001. He served the Omaha community for nearly 13 years, most recently as a narcotic detective and DEA task force officer. Greg had spent many years hunting and shooting with his father. A gifted shooter, he became a shooting instructor for the department and enjoyed teaching others, especially his children who carry on his love of the shooting sports.

Greg passed away on February 19, 2014, at the age of 43 from complications related to the H1N1 influenza virus. His passion to help others continued after his death through his organ, tissue and cornea donation. Greg's life and death reminds all who knew him to make each and every day count.
