FRANCIS’S STORY
The family of Francis "Frank" James Cox is proud to honor his life of service and devotion to helping others. He grew up in Butte, Montana, served in the Navy, married his wife, Bettie, and received a college degree in Accounting and Business Management.
Frank enjoyed camping and spending time in his motorhome, tailgating at the ski resorts every weekend as his family snow skied. He was also happy to barbeque just about anything at frequent pool parties at the family home. His love of family was very apparent and his passion for over 20 years was volunteering at Shriner's Hospitals for Children. Frank was the 29th person to join the El Kalah Shrine Clown Unit where he was lovingly known as "Potsy." He had the ability to bring smiles to young and old. You could always hear him say, "So glad you could come and see us today." He loved to create balloon sculptures and give them out to adoring fans. The clowns created an annual Christmas party for the patients at the hospital which included tree decorations and ornament making. Many of the patients were from out of state and even some from out of the country.
Potsy spent many weekends entertaining at the hospital and "clowning around" at private parties and store openings to raise money to donate to the hospital. His children knew he was registered as an organ and tissue donor. Several years before his death at age 55, he was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle. He was concerned that the diagnosis might not make donation possible. Frank was able to donate his corneas and skin, which enabled a better quality of life for several individuals. His family knows he would be very pleased to learn that his wish to help others upon his passing finally came true. Frank's family is so proud of the legacy that he left, as his children and grandchildren continue to be of service in various ways.
