SAMUEL’S STORY
Samuel Warren Weaver was a passionate volunteer, devoted teacher, and lover of the outdoors. He was a high school environmental science and biology teacher in Casper, Wyoming, and known throughout the community for his love of Casper Mountain and dedication to helping others.
An avid volunteer, Sam spent more than 50 years with the National Ski Patrol, was the president of the Casper Mountain Fire Department board and started the Casper Mountain Pine Beetle Association. He loved giving back to the community and gave much of his energy to the protection and conservation of Wyoming's amazing resources.
In 2018, less than a month after he had renewed his choice to be an organ, eye and tissue donor on his driver license, Sam passed away from complications following a surgery. Sam had spoken openly with his loved ones about his decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor—it was one final way for him to be able to give back.
Sam's volunteer accomplishments have been immortalized by a special plaque and display in the lodge at the Hogadon Ski Area. But most importantly, his legacy lives on in the individuals whose lives he saved after giving the gift of life.
Sam's wife Laurie is extremely proud of her husband's gift. She and her family were able to find peace in knowing others were able to enjoy life because of Sam, saying "Although we grieved for our terrible loss, knowing another family was receiving word that their loved one would survive was an incredible feeling that gave us a tremendous amount of comfort."
Sam will continue to serve as an inspiration to his community and be remembered for the impact of his gifts, both in life and in his death.
For those that knew him best, they can't help but picture his smile as he is honored this year in a floragraph, created with materials from the canvas that he loved most: nature.
