JUSTIN’S STORY
Justin will always be remembered for his infectious smile and amazing personality that could light up a room. Even though he sometimes told jokes that only he found funny, he made friends with anyone who crossed his path. Always up for a round of golf, game of cards, meeting friends for a beer or spending time with his wife and dog children; Brady and Deuce. No matter the occasion, he was notoriously known for never wanting the good times to end.
He was born and raised in the Quad Cities, IA/IL. Justin served as a medic in the U.S. Army National Guard and toured in Iraq with Bravo Battery 2-123 Field Artillery. In 2008, he received his bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University and in the same year married his wife, Kate. He then continued his service in a civilian position as a contract specialist for the Army Contracting Command at the Rock Island Arsenal.
At the age of 30, Justin Lockett passed away from a traumatic brain injury on May 5, 2014. Through the coordination of the Iowa Donor Network, Justin saved the lives of FIVE strangers by donating his lungs, heart, liver, pancreas, left and right kidney. In addition, he was able to donate corneas, bones, connective tissue, skin, and thoracic aorta, improving the lives of another 300+ people. The five men who received a lifesaving organ had an immediate impact, but the ripple effect was spread to the spouses and a total of 16 children that were able to keep their parents.
Justin was a hero to his wife and family throughout his years of serving his country as a soldier and he continues to be a hero as an organ and tissue donor by giving the ultimate gift of life. Rusty Revolution, a yearly event to honor Justin, has raised over $43 thousand in funds and countless awareness for organ donation. Giving back to an organization who supported the family during their time of need has been very rewarding. His family cannot wait to see that good looking mug floating down the Rose Bowl parade route.
