LIONEL’S STORY

Lionel Brazile Jr. was born on February 5, 1960. He was the 4th child of nine to Lionel and Jean Brazile. Lionel was an active child who loved painting, model cars and math. He attended Alfred Bonnabel High School in Kenner, Louisiana, and Xavier University of Louisiana. Lionel enjoyed spending time with nieces and nephews. s. He was a math tutor, an author of two math books, and an artist. He lived a free life of the love of God. On July 13, 1997, he suddenly passed away due to an aneurysm. This was a shock to his family as Lionel was only 36 years old.

Lionel’s sister’s husband, Roderick Mcgee Sr., had been on dialysis for 5 years. He was also on the waitlist for a kidney. The family was approached for consent by LOPA (Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency) . Lionel’s brother, Chet, knew that Lionel had signed up to be an organ donor. Lionel’s family took only 3 ½ hours to give their consent. Lionel’s sister, Cheryl, asked if her husband, Roderick, could receive one of the kidneys. Early the next morning after dialysis and many tests, Roderick was given the incredible news that it was a match, and the transplant could take place. Roderick received his brother-in-law's kidney. Four other recipients received Lionel’s organs as well. Roderick’s life was enhanced, and the family was given the gift of more time with Roderick. Sadly, in 2001, Roderick passed away. His corneas were donated giving two individuals restored sight.
