PEYTON’S STORY

Peyton was special from the day he was born. If you were to describe how a person should live, you could say: "like Peyton". He was the nicest person you could ever meet – his family says he "loved like Jesus". Peyton would give anyone the shirt off his back, never seeking recognition — just wanting others to be happy.

At 16, Peyton got his license and registered as an organ and tissue donor, declaring, "Of course, I'm going to get the pink dot! Why not?" After a fatal car accident at age 21, Peyton's decision saved three lives; his heart, lungs, kidneys, corneas and tissues were donated through Lifesharing, a nonprofit in San Diego. Peyton's heart and one of his kidneys saved the life of Harley Duffer of Arizona. Thanks to Peyton's gift, Harley and his wife Justine welcomed a second daughter, naming her "Peyton"— the two families forever bonded by Peyton's loving heart.

Peyton would have loved the 2025 Donate Life Rose Parade Float, Best Day Ever, which celebrates joy. The float's theme reminds his family of how much Peyton loved origami—he could create amazing objects with little more than a gum wrapper. And if you put a hammer in his hand, he could build anything, too. He worked with the Black Contractors Association of San Diego, which established a pre-apprenticeship program in his name. He also helped create a playground for the Logan Heights Community Development Corporation – it's named "Peyton's Place".

Peyton studied computer science at California State University Northridge and was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. The fraternity gives a scholarship and holds an annual "Nurse the Beach Cleanup" in Peyton's honor, because he loved the beach and giving back to his community. Peyton lived life to the fullest, even setting a goal to master 25 talents by age 25 — including fire-breathing! In his final act of kindness, Peyton ensured others could live with the same passion.

Peyton's family, strong in their faith, believes he was called home after a life well-lived. They find comfort knowing that through organ and tissue donation, Peyton's gift continues to touch lives… and a part of him still beats strong here on Earth.
