RAJ’S STORY

For Dr. Raj Shah, nothing was more important in life than his family, friends, and his work. His career spanned almost 25 years as a Pediatric Medicine Hospitalist Physician, and Medical Director of Pediatrics in community hospitals affiliated with Capital Health in New Jersey, and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. He was a passionate, dedicated clinician and educator who was recognized for his teaching excellence and received many awards.

As passionate as he was about his career, he was even more passionate about his family He met his wife, Dr. Lara Ferri, during his Pediatrics Residency and they celebrated their twenty years of marriage in 2023. His legacy continues through his sons Maximillian and Alessandro (Lex), who brought him immense pride and joy. Raj was an avid golfer, world traveler, billiards player, and player of many word games. "Hello, my friend" is how he would greet you along with his warm smite. His humility, kindness, and humor were appreciated by all who knew him. A friend of Raj's was a friend for life.

As a physician who cared for patients who had received organ transplants, Raj knew the lifesaving importance of organ donation. When he was killed by a tree falling onto the car he was driving on a highway outside of Philadelphia on December 10, 2023, there was no question that he would want his family to donate his tissue and organs.

It is fitting that through the gift of his bones, blood vessels, skin, and cornea donations, his compassionate spirit will continue to heal others and his legacy and dedication to patient care will continue to future generations.
