TRUONG’S STORY

Truong Thai, lovingly known as Thai, was born in Bae Lieu, Vietnam in 1973 and dreamed of being a police officer since he was a child. He was able to achieve this goal in 1999 with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD). During his decorated 23-year career, Thai was a mentor and training officer to many. He not only policed with passion, empathy, courage, and integrity; he embodied it.

As you can imagine, Thai worked in just about every area command around Las Vegas in his 23 years on the department and accumulated so many life-long friends along the way. Until he was tragically taken from his family on 10/13/2022, they were unaware of just how much of an impact he had not only on the department, but on the whole city as well.

Thai was always a role model to his nieces and nephews, then to his own daughter in 2003. Even when not on duty, Thai was still a mentor to many as a girls' volleyball coach, which was another passion of his. Thai also loved the water and was truly at peace when he was on his sailboat. Whether he was fishing or just maintaining it, that's where he loved to be. He really enjoyed taking his daughter and father out on the ocean to spend time with them.

Thai's family said "YES" to donation because he was always eager to help others in life, and they believe he would have wanted to help as many others as he could one last time. He was already a hero to his family and community and will now be remembered as a hero to his recipients who received his gift of life through the power of organ, eye and tissue donation.
