VERONICA’S STORY
Veronica Salas remembers her father, Jose Salas, was a man of few words. He came from humble beginnings in Tamazula, Durango, Mexico. He came to the United States with nothing, worked as field worker for many years, and eventually he and his wife went on to open a couple of businesses. Their dedication and hard work showed her their sacrifice was really a display of love.
He taught Veronica and her siblings to be loving, hardworking, honest, selfless, and God fearing. Veronica recalls him arriving home, proudly wearing his dusty red hard-hat. Jose fought a 10-year battle against vasculitis, which affected his kidney function. His family was amazed that he never complained. Dialysis affected his heart, requiring open heart surgery.
In 2006, Jose's family learned he wouldn't' have much time left if he didn't receive a kidney transplant. His children did not hesitate to volunteer. Veronica donated a kidney with no hesitation.
Veronica remembers the legacy her father left for her and her family. She walks in honor of her father and mother's dedication during their transplant journey and gives God the Glory for the opportunity to give the gift of life. She is thankful to Donate Life California for making this possible and is believer and advocate for organ donation.
Matthew 5:16, "Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
