Brent’s Story
Brent Christopher Covington was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, friend, and fellow worker. He loved sports, the outdoors, family game night, everything Disney, especially Jack Skellington, and most of all, Brent loved his family deeply. Brent was born in Iowa and as a child moved with his family to Phoenix, Arizona, where he later met and married his high school sweetheart, Tammy. Brent and Tammy moved to Tacoma, Washington, after the birth of their first son, Riley. Their family was complete after the births of two more sons, Jordan and Braiden.
Brent worked as a corrections officer from 1999 until his death in 2015. He was a dedicated and hard worker. His co-workers have expressed that he was well-liked, respected, was an excellent mentor, always had their backs, and was a good friend. Even with his busy work schedule, he always carved out quality time to spend with his family and his love for them was evident to everyone.
In July of 2015 at 40 years of age, Brent took his own life. It was a shocking tragedy for all who knew and loved him. While in the midst of their grief, his family was pleased to be able to honor Brent’s wish to be a donor and enthusiastically agreed to donate anything they could. Brent’s life inspired so many while he was alive and it was comforting to his family to know that while his death was tragic, his life would continue to touch others. His corneas, heart valves, bone, skin, and connective tissues will be a blessing to many more lives for years to come. In the face of such adversity, it is hard to find something positive to cling to, but the gift of life to others has given Brent’s family a sense of peace.
