JANET RENEE CLINE
Kidney Donor
Age 51 ~
Donated on
at Cedars Sinai
Honored by cshs.org
Renee Cline was 48 years old when she donated her kidney to her brother and 2016 float rider Kerry Carpenter. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Renee has now been living in California so long she calls it home. Kerry moved out to California five years ago and upon arrival, it was evident that his health was failing. Soon after, Kerry had been told he needed a kidney transplant. Renee immediately volunteered to see if she was a match. She was. Renee and Kerry were surrounded by people who supported them. Everything from that point forward was quick and progressing.
Janet’s Story
I’m Renee Cline a 51 year old woman. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, I have now lived in California longer and call it home. I was 48 at the time of donation. Kerry Carpenter, my brother, joined us out here 5 years ago from Olathe Kansas where he had been living with our family. We were all aware of Kerry’s failing health for some time. After he had been examined by the transplant team at Cedars Sinai we were told his kidney function had reached a critical point. The doctors told us that his best option was a kidney transplant. I volunteered to see if I was a match. I was so happy to find out we WERE a good match, and I was able to help my brother. The surgery was quick and the Kidney is working well in Kerry’s body! We have had an excellent support system of family and friends. My employer, the Los Angeles City Fire Department, was very supportive as well. And of course the amazing team at cedars sinai who made it happen!
