Nathan Rey Guerrero was a typical, happy 10-year-old boy, full of energy and life. He was friends with everyone. His parents, Linda and Pete, remember his love for meeting new people and making friends wherever he went. Many of the activities he enjoyed were things he could do with those he loved – like practicing football, baseball and even cooking. He enjoyed working on his family farm and loved the outdoors, including going horseback riding, camping and hunting alongside his father. Nathan loved the Lord and he was not ashamed to say it, wear it and proclaim it. Amidst the great tragedy of his death, Nathan’s character continued to be revealed; he was a true giver. The Guerrero’s decision to donate their son’s organs saved the lives of five others.

Nathan’s Story

Nathan Rey Guerrero was a typical, happy 10-year-old boy, full of energy and life. He was friends with everyone. His parents, Linda and Pete, remember his love for meeting new people and making friends wherever he went. Many of the activities he enjoyed were things he could do with those he loved – like practicing football, baseball and even cooking. He enjoyed working on his family farm; even at a young age he was taking the reins like he had done the job for years. He loved the outdoors, including going horseback riding, camping and hunting alongside his father. Nathan loved the Lord and he was not ashamed to say it, wear it and proclaim it.

One afternoon, in July 2014, Nathan called his dad complaining of a headache. When his dad arrived home later to check-in on him he found Nathan unconscious. Nathan was quickly rushed by HALO-Flight to Driscoll Children’s Hospital, where he later passed away.

Amidst this great tragedy, Nathan’s character continued to be revealed; he was a true giver. The Guerrero’s decision to donate their son’s organs saved the lives of five others. In November 2014, Pete and Linda Guerrero had the opportunity meet the vibrant, 16-year old who received one of their son’s kidneys.

Nathans parents are truly heroes for the selfless, donation decision they made and that Nathan continues to live on and make an impact in the lives of those he saved.
