Carlie Newton was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia and received her transplant from her mother, Cindy Newton, in December of 1997. Carlie is now 18 years post-transplant and is now attending the University of Iowa as a sophomore. She is studying communications and human relations. Carlie states “I am so lucky to have received the gift of life from my mom, she is the reason I am where I am today. She is my best friend and I am forever grateful to her.”

Carlie’s Story

My name is Carlie Newton and I am 19 years old. I am a recipient of a liver that was donated to me by my mother.  I was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia and had my transplant in December of 1997. I am now 18 years post-transplant and going to be a sophomore at the University of Iowa. I am studying communications and human relations. I am so lucky to have received the gift of life from my mom, she is the reason I am where I am today. She is my best friend and I am forever grateful to her.
