Eric always had a strong passion for life, his family, culture, and technology. He was an inspiration to all who were in his presence. Eric was a proud graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso and eventually worked as an IT specialist at Texas Tech. One of his greatest achievements was the day he married his best friend, Mandy Perez. The gleam in his eyes and his warm smile reflected the special feelings Eric held for the love of his life. Eric loved to encourage people to push forward in life and he gave of himself selflessly. On August 30, 2015, he carried out one last selfless act through organ donation, giving five people he would never meet the gift of life. He is remembered through his organization, AO’s Gift of Life.

Eric’s Story

Eric always had a strong passion for life, his family, culture and technology. He was an inspiration to all who were in his presence. Eric was a proud graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso and eventually worked as an IT specialist at Texas Tech.

One of his greatest achievements was the day he married his best friend, Mandy Perez. The gleam in his eyes and his warm smile reflected the special feelings Eric held for the love of his life. Their love was unending and together, they created memories that will forever be embedded in their hearts. Nothing else seemed to matter when they were in each other’s arms. Eric and Mandy vowed to dance through life together.

Eric loved to encourage people to push forward in life and he gave of himself selflessly. Little did Mandy and his family know that at the age of 29, Eric would inspire the community in a different way. On the tragic day of August 30, 2015, his community learned what that truly meant. Again, he carried out one last selfless act through organ donation; giving five people he would never meet the gift of life –once more inspiring others.

He is remembered through his organization AO’s Gift of Life. Each year , the “Eric Aofia’s Donate Life 5k Walk/Run” is held, with the proceeds going to Southwest Transplant Alliance, the organ procurement organization that worked on his case. AO’s Gift of Life strives to promote organ donation awareness not only in the El Paso, Texas region, but throughout the surrounding areas. The organization hopes to continue to inspire people to support the gift of life through organ donation.
