Glenn was a donor and has helped over 127 people after suffering from a massive brain hemorrhage on March 23, 2013. Glenn loved family; his son was his pride and joy. Friends were also family to him and he stayed in close contact with friends from kindergarten. Glenn was a loved man. This year’s Donate Life Float is fitting because Glenn was also an athlete. With sports, Glenn was on the team and most usually the captain, the quarterback, the pitcher, the star. He studied film at the University of Miami which was the equivalent of an academy award for students in the late 1970s. Since Glenn’s passing, his wife has been inspired to become an Ambassador with OneLegacy, where she now speaks to get the word out about the importance of being a donor, a hero.
Glenn’s Story
March 23, 2013, started out like any other day. I left my house to do errands like I’d done so many Saturdays before that and while I was away, my husband, Glenn, suffered a massive brain hemorrhage. We never spoke again.
My shock quickly turned to pride. You see Glenn was a donor and has helped over 127 people, ages 4 – 94 and I couldn’t be more proud.
I never met anyone like Glenn before. He loved me from the start and wasn’t afraid to show his vulnerable side. He was also a hopeless romantic. He would draw hearts on the bathroom mirror with my nail polish and leave love notes on my pillow. Not a day would go by without Glenn telling me how much he loved and adored me. Glenn was one big beating heart of love.
Glenn loved family. His son was his pride and joy. Glenn’s face would light up when he walked into the room. He adored his sisters and mother in NY and doted on his three grandchildren. Friends were also family to him and he stayed in close contact with friends from kindergarten. Glenn was a loved man. Glenn grew up on Long Island, NY where everyone knew and adored him. After high school, Glenn studied film at the University of Miami, where he won the equivalent of an academy award for students in the late 1970s.
This year’s Donate Life Float is fitting because Glenn was an athlete. You name the sport, Glenn was on the team and most usually the captain, the quarterback, the pitcher, the star. He even learned to surf in the cold Long Island waters in the depth of winter! Not only did he excel at every sport, he was “The” team player. His favorite phrase was “There is no “I” in team.”
Since Glenn’s sudden passing, I have become an Ambassador with OneLegacy, where I speak at hospitals, city council meetings, schools and community events to get the word out about the importance of being a donor, a hero. And, I get to talk about my beloved, Glenn!
