Jared Stanley Gates had a heart of gold with a great love for his family and friends. His family, therefore, named their team “Heart of Gold” for the annual Donate Life Run/Walk. Jared was the kind of person, who when he hugged you, he wanted to make sure you knew you were hugged. He had a great love of music, pottery, painting, and all types of eclectic art. He also played the bass guitar. Jared was a licensed blood donor in life and made the decision to be a registered donor when he got his driver’s license. At the time of his passing, he was able to improve lives with tissue and bone donation.
Jared’s Story
Jared Stanley Gates lived in Lake Elsinore, CA and was age 30 at the time of his passing. Jared graduated from Lake Elsinore High School in 2000. He had a great love of music from punk to Johnny Cash. As a result of his love, he played the bass. He also loved pottery, painting and all types of eclectic art. We have a collection of his paintings. They range from birds sitting on a fence (of course the black bird, The Raven, from Edgar Allan Poe’s poem) to sugar skulls celebrating the day of the dead. He had a twisted sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. Because of Jared’s great love for his family and friends, we say he has a heart of gold. We have named our team “Heart of Gold” for the Annual Donate Life Run/Walk. Jared and I enjoyed cooking together. He taught me things and I taught him a few things too. Jared was the kind of person who when he hugged you, he wanted to make sure you know you were hugged. He gave big strong bear hugs. He never had a mean thing to say about anyone. Just wanted everyone happy. Jared really liked clowns and one year when he was young, we hired a clown for his birthday party. When he opened the front door he said, “It’s a Frown, it’s a Frown!” He couldn’t say clown since he was only 3 or 4. Jared enjoyed going with his brother, Sean, his dad, and uncles to the desert for some guy time.
Jared loved Christmas. Every year they would go help grandma and grandpa decorate their tree; his younger cousin loved to sit on top of the couch behind and put her legs around him. He only smiled. One year when he was little while decorating for Christmas, we forgot the nativity set and he said, “You forgot Jesus in the box.” When we celebrate Christmas, we put up his stocking and enjoy a meal he would have enjoyed.
Jared was a blood donor in life and made the decision to be a registered donor when he got his driver’s license. At the time of his passing, they were able to recover tissue and bone.
