ANAND’S STORY
Tribhawan “Anand” Persaud was a friend to all. His cheerful heart, generosity and winsome smile were a gift to all who knew him. Growing up in West Coast Demerara, Guyana, Anand fearlessly explored the outdoors and sought adventure wherever he would go. He was a leader in his village, Ruimzeith. As a person of Faith, Anand grew up joyfully playing drums at his church and bicycling through town, inspiring children to join him in attending a Sunday service.
Anand surrounded himself with the people he loved. He would often invite his friends to spend time with his large, extended family, and break bread, over traditional Guyanese fare. After he completed secondary school, his principal recognized his leadership and encouraged him to stay involved. With a special interest in agricultural sciences, Anand invested in the youth of his village by tutoring students. His peers, friends and students considered him a mentor and today, many credit their success to their dear, wise friend.
Anand was a confident, highly competitive sportsman. As a dedicated teammate, he excelled in his favorite team sports: basketball and cricket. He aimed for excellence in all he did and ensured his teammates were lead to countless victories.
In 2002, the Persaud family moved to America to pursue their dreams and seek a life of opportunities for their only son. Anand loved to travel and embraced his new life in America. His pursuit of happiness took him on a journey towards his own American dream with a job he loved, a new community of friends, and the constant support of his family. As a life-long learner, continuing his education was important to him. Anand was working hard and making plans to earn his bachelor’s degree.
Tragically, Anand passed away in a motor vehicle accident at the burgeoning age of 21. Because of Anand’s innate ability to see positivity in hardship and his selfless dedication to serving others, his parents said “yes” to saving lives through organ donation. Through the miracle of organ donation, Anand gave the Gift of Life and hope to six people waiting for a lifesaving transplant.
Today, Anand’s energy and smile are not forgotten. His parents, Trib and Jasmine, honor their son’s life of serving others by educating the community on the generous, lifesaving message of organ donation.
The Persaud family knows Anand would have loved this year’s Rhythm of the Heart Rose Parade Float theme. As a drummer, musician and a man who always lent a helping hand to others, he would have been proud and honored to know he would be a part of this display of lifesaving heroes for the world to see.
