ANDREW’S STORY
Andrew was peaceful. Andrew was fearless. Andrew was generous. Andrew was the guy who shunned conflict. In elementary school Andrew was awarded the “Counselor’s Award” for peacemaking. He encouraged others to talk, to communicate, and to face their doubts and fears.
Andrew had a passion for life and he wanted to share life with anyone he met. As a toddler, he would try to perform the stunts he saw on the wrestling shows shouting, “OFF TOP ROPES!” as he flung himself off the back of the couch trusting someone to always catch him. As a teen he was always up for a challenge. He tried football, the geography club, roller blading, and skateboarding. He enjoyed soccer, ROTC, band, cheerleading, and show choir. He was always eager to push his mind and his body to new limits. He was interested in the field of physical therapy and participated in the health sciences organization in high school as well as the Anchor Club, where he enjoyed calling numbers for Bingo games at the local nursing home.
It was Andrew’s generosity that had the biggest impact on those who knew him. He gave blood as often as he could. He gave rides when he had no gas. He gave food when he himself was hungry. He gave his clothing when he saw a need. He donated his toys to the local mission. He once decided that the television was thirsty and gave it a drink of water. It was no surprise that Andrew was an organ donor.
Andrew was an 18-year-old student at Enterprise State Community College and working part-time at a local restaurant in Enterprise, Alabama when he had a seizure. The seizures continued constantly for the next 8 weeks. The brain damage he suffered from each seizure was too severe to sustain his life and his generosity was made evident in his gift of organ donation. The staff at Legacy of Hope in Alabama helped to ensure that Andrew’s legacy continues today in the lives of those who benefit from his passion for peace, for life, and for giving.
